RUSSIA WINS GOLD MEDAL AT 2012 WORLD UNDER-17 HOCKEY CHALLENGE
WINDSOR, Ont. – For the first time since 2000, Russia has won the gold medal at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, defeating the United States 7-4 in Wednesday night’s gold medal game at the WFCU Centre in Windsor.
Sergei Tolchinski scored a hat trick to lead the offence, including a shorthanded penalty shot goal early in the third period to make it a 4-2 game. It’s the second year in a row the Americans have allowed a penalty shot goal in the third period of the gold medal game.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - USA Hockey today named the 29 players who make up the preliminary roster for the 2012 U.S. National Junior Team. The group will gather for a camp in Camrose, Alta., on Dec. 17, with the final 22-player U.S. National Junior Team roster expected to be named Dec. 22.

LANGLEY, B.C. -- Ray Pigozzi (Evanston, Ill./Des Moines Buccaneers) and Andy Welinski (Duluth, Minn./Green Bay Gamblers) each scored for Team USA, but the U.S. Junior Select Team fell to Canada East, 4-2, in the semifinal round of the 2011 World Junior A Challenge. With the loss, Team USA drops to 2-0-0-2 (W-OTW-OTL-L) overall and will play in the third-place game tomorrow (Nov. 12).

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Dean Blais (International Falls, Minn.), was today named the head coach of the 2012 U.S. National Junior Team. The appointment marks Blais' third stint as head coach of a U.S. National Junior Team, having led Team USA to the gold medal at the 2010 International Ice Hockey World Junior Championship and also guiding the squad in 1994.
USA Hockey Fans Need To Step It Up!
Opening day at the 2011 World Juniors IIHF Championship in Buffalo, NY was somewhat disappointing if you were a Team USA hockey fan. It had nothing to do with the team, they won a gritty match over a stingy defense of Team Finland by an overtime score of 3-2. It had all to do with American attendance compared to Canadian attendance.
