True North Sports & Entertainment, in conjunction with St. John’s Sports & Entertainment, is pleased to announce a three-year agreement for a new American Hockey League affiliation in the city of St. John’s, NL. Effective immediately, the AHL team now located in St. John’s, NL will operate as the affiliate of Winnipeg’s newly acquired NHL franchise.

HOUSTON, Tex. … The Binghamton Senators put the exclamation point on a remarkable turnaround season by capturing the 2011 Calder Cup championship with a 3-2 win over the Houston Aeros at the Toyota Center in Houston on Tuesday night.

Houston Gains Advantage in Calder Cup Finals

Binghamton, NY - The Houston Aeros grabbed a 2 games to 1 advantage in the AHL Calder Cup Finals this evening in front of a sold out and rockin’ 4,710 maniacs at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.

The Aeros were able to squeak this one out by the score of 2-1 over the host Binghamton Senators courtesy of goals by Jon DiSalvatore and Nate Prosser.

Game 7 – HAMILTON 2, Manitoba 1 (3OT) (HAM wins series, 4-3)

MONDAY’S THREE STARS:
1. Hamilton forward Dustin Boyd scored six seconds into the third overtime period to end the longest Game 7 in AHL history and give the Bulldogs a 2-1 win over Manitoba to conclude the North Division Finals.

Albany Newbies Help School Adirondack

Albany, NY - Ryan Ginand’s goal and two assists helped the Albany Devils (31-37-1-4) defeat their archrival Adirondack Phantoms (26-37-4-6) by the score of 6-2. D-man Joe Sova also netted a key goal for the baby Devils, between these two they have a combined 6 games in the AHL.

They were not the only story as Albany featured three other scorers and a couple of fighters to help command them to a fairly easy win. At no point in the game did they seem in danger of giving up their lead.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … Year-end awards ballots were due yesterday from American Hockey League coaches, players and media, and the American Hockey League will begin handing out individual awards later this week in recognition of its outstanding performers during the 2010-11 season.
