Walikology: Letting My New York Tongue Wag

Haven't done this in a while, so forgive me if I stumble a bit.

For a while I've been biting my writing tongue at the longstanding battle between Boston and New York. Two issues: 1) My father has lived in Dorchester for a good majority of his adult life and adopted the Boston teams as his very own, and 2) Using the Big Four major spots in this next scenario: due to many visits there as a kid, and a visit from a goalie named Pete Peeters when I got into the game of hockey as a very serious fan and an accidental teenage player, I am a rabid Boston Bruins fan.

Super Bowl 2012: What's in the Giants, Patriots, 49ers and Ravens' Name?

With football in the air for a few more weeks, with phrases like Super Bowl, New York Giants, New England Patriots, San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens occupying headlines for a while now—the back story of these names and a few others have a lot of history and a lot of interesting sidebars.

NFL Championship Game Sunday - - Two First Overall QB's Meet Again

NEW YORK GIANTS (11-7) at SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS (14-3) (Sunday, FOX, 6:30 PM ET)

The NFC Championship Game marks the eighth postseason meeting between the Giants and 49ers, with San Francisco currently holding a 4-3 edge in the series. New York won the lone Conference Championship meeting between these two clubs, earning a 15-13 victory in San Francisco en route to a Super Bowl XXV title.

FOUR GAMES REMAIN AS NFL ENTERS FINAL QUARTER

It’s Week 14 of the NFL season and only four games remain to decide who advances to the playoffs. And who goes is anyone’s guess as 28 teams remain in contention for a postseason berth.

“It’s good to be 9-3 and our team is in a decent position here,” says New England Patriots head coach BILL BELICHICK. “Hopefully we can keep improving through the last quarter of the season.”

With four games to go, there are 22 teams either in or within two games of a playoff spot.

A Short Eulogy for A Big Man

Bob Sheppard the famed Yankee and Football Giant PA announcer passed away Sunday at age 99. He started doing Yankee games the same year I started going to them 1951. I lived across the street on Gerard Avenue and I could hear him even when I was at home, that was so cool for us kids.
