Admittedly that’s a bit melodramatic, but starting in the 2012-2013 season, the National Hockey League is about to under a massive transformation. In case you were on an Artic cruise, the NHL has decided to adopt a drastic realignment of teams’ divisional and postseason setups.

NEW YORK (November 25, 2011) – The National Hockey League (NHL®), the Philadelphia Flyers® and New York Rangers® today jointly released the current rosters for the 2012 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic® Alumni Game. The game, played outdoors between the legends and greats from both of the storied franchises, will take place Saturday, Dec. 31 at 1 p.m. ET at Citizens Bank Park™.

HBO Sports® will present “Previewto 24/7 Flyers/Rangers: Road To The NHL Winter Classic,” a 12-minute preview of the upcoming NHL reality series featuring the spirited rivalry between the Philadelphia Flyers and the New York Rangers, which is set to air exclusively on HBO.

When I was younger and growing up in New York there was one marquee matchup that I would move heaven and earth to watch or listen to, that was Rangers-Flyers, it didn’t matter if it was the regular season or the playoffs. I had to watch and I saw as many of those matchups as humanly possible.
