Off The Post -- The Razor Returns To Philadelphia

The Philadelphia Flyers have had, shall we say, a fascinating history of goaltenders. Parent, Peeters, Lindbergh, Hextall, Snow, Vanbiesbrouck, Cechmanek, Boucher, and Bryzgalov are but a handful of interesting characters who achieved various levels of success or ignominy while tending the pipes for the Orange and Black.

Toews Will Never Leave Manitoba

When some hockey players get to a certain age they usually pack up their memories and leave their hometowns in search of bright lights and stardom in the NHL. However, there are many players that are proud of their small town background and that helps to keep them grounded. Jonathan Toews is one of those guys. He has a burgeoning career ahead of him but it all started in Winnipeg, Manitoba and even though “The Peg” has produced some current NHLers like teammate Cam Barker, Rangers prospect Nigel Dawes, and future Hall of Famer Ed Belfour to name a few, this kid is different. He has that special quality that only the great ones have.

But if you are looking for an apology from them or their faithful fans you won’t be getting it. Not from a defending Championship team that lost nine players including goalie Antti Niemi and skilled general pain in the neck, Dust Byfuglien. In a conference that saw 5 points separate positions 10th through 4th, the Blackhawks know that sometimes you have to get a little lucky along the way.

Hawks One Step Closer To Cup Immortality

Knowing the momentum of the series had shifted in the Flyer's favor, it was the Blackhawks that responded tonight with a sense of urgency that was lacking in long spurts of Games 3 and 4.

Significant line changes that coach Joel Quenneville made to the roster, led to instant results. Not just in terms of energy and scoring but in the team’s confidence. Although maintaining the company line vocally to the press, which the Hawks never wavered from, behind closed doors you can be sure that the speed and physicality of the Flyers was gnawing at the team’s psyche. On the ice, the results manifested themselves in the form of sustained pressure through the first 10 minutes of the game.

Pronger Pushes Flyers Past Blackhawks

Philadelphia - - With time ticking down in a tie game, Chris Pronger took a pass right to the open part of the net and he buried it to give his team the 3-2 lead with 2.1 seconds left! Claude Giroux found him and the veteran did the rest. The Flyers had scored two goals 2:01 apart for the big comeback win against the Central leading Chicago Blackhawks.
