The New York Islanders are on a bit of a roll. They are 6-2-2 in their last 10, they have the 6th best power play in the league and their #1 goalie, Evgeni Nabokov is ranked 7th in save percentage. Now here is the issue, where will they be in the standings come February 27th at 3 PM ET? Right now they are nine points out of the 8th and final playoff spot in the East and they have 4 games in hand on the eighth place Ottawa Senators.
Philadelphia – The Philadelphia Flyers beat the New York Islanders 7-4, to end their season on a high note and they clinched the Atlantic Division.
The Flyers went up 5-4 at 18:29 of the second period when Scott Hartnell fired one past the Rick DiPietro. He fought hard for that in the crease and that put a rubber stamp on the Flyers regular season.
There are still a lot of hockey games to be played but I thought it would be fun to give a list of my top ten Calder Candidates as it stands right now. My preseason pick was John Tavares.
1) Buffalo – Defense – Tyler Myers – He’s a plus player in his rookie season!
