OTTAWA -- Closure.
That’s what Ottawa Senators head coach Paul McLean will be expecting for his team’s fans Sunday night when Daniel Alfredsson returns to home to an emotionally charged Canadian Tire Centre Sunday evening. It will be his first game back in front of a crowd that endeared him as much as any NHL player – or pro athlete, for that matter – had been beloved by a city in the last generation.

Thomas Vanek had to be relieved after leaving Nassau Coliseum last night. He scored his first goal as an Islander last night in the Islanders’ 3-1 victory over the Bruins. Now, the newest Islander does not have to answer questions from the media about when he is going to score his first goal.
This is not just an ordinary player the Islanders acquired from the Sabres. Their new acquisition is a star in the National Hockey League, and he is expected to provide the team a 1-2 scoring punch with John Tavares. The Islanders gave up Matt Moulson and draft picks for him.

On Thursday, the Flyers made the decision to begin reshaping their roster configuration, shipping forward Maxime Talbot to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for winger Steve Downie, the team’s first round selection from the 2005 NHL Draft.

Philadelphia -- The Anaheim Ducks have a gaggle of players on the injury list and yet they’re 10-3-0 1 point behind the San Jose Sharks for the Pacific lead. 11 games into his NHL career he has 2 points and he’s a +10 on the season. In Philadelphia he played over 17 minutes and he’s averaging 19:27 and that’s a solid number for a guy who was drafted 6th overall last June.
This blueliner rarely makes mistakes. He plays a simple game but he doesn’t have simple skills. He has a lot of skill and he uses it wisely.
