2012 OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALIST AND WNBA CHAMPION MAYA MOORE REMAINS NO. 1 ON LEAGUE’S MOST POPULAR JERSEYS LIST

NEW YORK, Aug. 23, 2012 – Olympic champion Maya Moore of the Minnesota Lynx remains No. 1 on the WNBA’s list of the most popular selling jerseys, based on sales on WNBAStore.com from October 2011 through August 2012. Moore, who was selected as the top overall pick in the 2011 WNBA Draft, also had the top selling jersey last year after earning 2011 WNBA Rookie of the Year honors and helping lead the Lynx to the WNBA title. Minnesota regained its position at No. 1 for team merchandise.

Los Angeles Sparks forward Candace Parker who reigned No. 1 from Oct. 2008 – July 2011 prior to Moore, comes in at No. 2. Phoenix Mercury guard Diana Taurasi advances four spots this year rounding out the top three. The Los Angeles Sparks moves two spots to No. 2 and the Atlanta Dream remain at No. 3.

In its 16th season, the WNBA remains the most successful women’s professional sports league. This year’s USA Basketball Women’s National Team, which is coming off its fifth consecutive Olympic gold medal, a record for traditional women’s sports teams, includes a roster featuring seven players with the most popular jerseys: Moore (No. 1), Parker (No. 2), Taurasi (No. 3), Seattle Storm guard Sue Bird (No. 5), Indiana Fever forward Tamika Catchings (No. 8), Atlanta Dream guard Angel McCoughtry (No. 9) and Lynx guard Lindsay Whalen (No. 10). In addition, Seattle Storm center Lauren Jackson (No.7) played for the Australian National Team and served as the country’s flag bearer.
