NORFOLK, V.A. – The Binghamton Senators made the trek south to Virginia with the hope of being the team to end the rival Norfolk Admirals record breaking 23 game winning streak. The Admirals however broke a tie with a pair of third period goals to take the game 3-1 and stretched their streak to 24.

The Admirals took a 1-0 advantage heading into the first intermission as defensemen Mark Barberio put his team on the board, scoring off a faceoff. The goal came with just 1:45 to go in the opening frame. Evan Oberg and Tyler Johnson recorded assists on the play.

After trailing for most of the second period, Jack Downing scored his third goal in as many games at 16:34 of the second to knot the game at one. Downing put the puck under the cross bar over Jaroslav Janus’s blocker side. David Dziurzynski and Wacey Hamilton assisted on the play.

2:51 into the third period the Admirals scored a fluke goal, one that bounced the wrong direction for the B-Sens. Johnson received credit for the goal, with Radko Gudas and Scott Jackson drawing the assists on the play. With 3:14 to go in the final period the Admirals gave themselves a two-goal cushion as Trevor Smith scored his 23rd goal of the year. Brandon Segal and J.P Cote received credit for assists.

The B-Sens went 0-for-5 on the power play tonight and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.

Robin Lehner stopped 32 of 35 shots as he fell to 12-22-1 on the season. Janus stopped 27 of 29 shots to improve to 21-9-2.

The B-Sens look to rebound tomorrow night as they return to the Norfolk Scope Arena to face the Admirals in a 7:15 tilt. Fans can listen live on “Binghamton’s Classic Hits” BIG 107.5 (WBBI-FM). Voice of the B-Sens Grady Whittenburg will have the call beginning 30 minutes before game time as he hosts Countdown to Faceoff.
