Toy Story 3 in 3D is Revolutionary
I think I saw the “Summer Blockbuster” and it was an animated movie and not an “action” movie. I’ve seen the two previous releases and it’s always hard to do a third and top the other two but I think they pulled it off on the strength of the 3-D format. If you didn’t see the 3-D version then you missed something special and need to see it again.
The story was good, the new characters were funny and some of the animation was jaw dropping. I couldn’t believe what blades of grass looked like or rain on a window or fire. It was tremendous and it reminded me of the first time that I watched HD programming.
I can’t imagine having the glasses on longer than 2 hours or so because they do put some strain on the eyes. I wouldn’t want to do this at home via a television as much as I watch but for the cinema it’s a perfect fit, and so much better than the previous attempts over the years.
When watching some of the 3-D trailers, and some were spectacular, it’s clear that Disney is investing heavily in this format and I think they will come out of it smelling like a rose. Walt Disney was all about having the best animators and showing off the best animation in the business and with this film he would have been very proud. This is a great family movie.
The Pixar short “Day and Night” that was shown before the main event looked great but was a bit disjointed.
