Ales Kotalik and Chris Higgins Headed to Calgary for Brandon Prust and Olli Jokinen - - UPDATE

UPDATE - The trade is a done deal. So Rangers GM Glen Sather gave Ales Kotalik a limited no-trade clause which included the Calgary Flames. Kotalik didn't want to go to Calgary so the trade talks continued. If Kotalik declined, which then it's very possible that Ryan Callahan could have been included in the deal. This entire equation boiled down to how much the Rangers wanted Jokinen and was Atlanta that third team waiting in the wings to move Ilya Kovalchuk?

The Rangers like to market players and there is a huge Russian population in Brooklyn, so this is a possibility.

One other thing. Wade Redden's name keeps coming up so they may be trying to move him as well.

Olli Jokinen is in the last year of his deal so they are renting him and they get some toughness in Prust. They lose some speed without Chris Higgins but Jokinen is very good on the power play and he can center a top line with Vinny Prospal and Marian Gaborik.

The Rangers still need a rugged defenseman and a backup goaltender but this will be an added offensive boost, that's for sure.
