Front Page Sports Football Interview With The Designers of the Game

Russ: Front Page Sports was once the best game on market. Do you expect there to be very positive name recognition?

FPSF: There is no doubt about the positive brand recognition that was accrued by Front Page Sports over the years and several members of our development team are keen fans. Therefore many of the concepts within our new online game can be traced back to the original, meaning that those who played Front Page Sports Football in the 90s shouldn't have too much trouble finding their feet.

Russ: We all loved making our own plays, is that feature available in this version?

FPSF: Front Page Sports Football puts a heavy focus on simulation and customization of tactics. There are over 2000 plays available for the creation of a playbook, be it offense or defense, so that leaves players with a huge number of possibilities. We're currently looking into the integration of a play editor, which would further enrich the content of the game.

Russ: As a free game do you expect there to be a huge amount of gamers that will sign up?

FPSF: The game was devised so that somebody could enjoy playing anywhere from 5 minutes to 1 hour per day, depending on their availability and commitment. if the player allows it, the game can take care of recruitment, the playbook, etc . . ., but there's no doubt that his team will be more effective if he takes care of such matters himself. This means that someone who knows little about the ins and outs of football should be able to enjoy the game.

Russ: Are there names of NFL players and cities like before, just no logos and trademarks?

FPSF: There are no official teams or players, but it is possible to name a team and choose a logo. It should be noted that Front Page Sports Football is not an adaptation of the previous Front Page series and so we have no constraints that would be imposed by making an official update.

Russ: Please give a rundown of what the gamer can control live as compared to other GM features that happen when you might be offline. Or is it all happening online?

FPSF: Front Page Sports Football is designed to be a management sim, so there's no direct hands-on player control. The games play out "on their own", taking into account the play you've chosen, how you've equipped your players and your players' skills. Of course, it also takes into account the same choices for the opposing team, to create a very realistic simulation of the results of each play.

Russ: What are the stadiums like?

FPSF: Since the focus is on simulation, you won't often be placed directly in the arenas, so there is not a heavy focus on fleshing-out the stadiums. They'll mostly be viewed as background images. We will have various arenas as backdrops, but they won't be a key element, since the game is more about the team management aspects of the game.

Russ: How much emphasis was placed on the games' graphics?

The Silverlight plug-in is not only resource friendly with a high level of security, but it also allows for high quality graphics. This allows us to create a very user-friendly interface with clear and easy menus and animations. The whole game takes advantage of the great graphics.

FPSF: Will gamers be able to use a PC gamepad? Or will the keyboard do it all?

Front Page Sports Football is playable via any browser on PC or Mac. The game is controlled via the mouse and keyboard without requirement for a gamepad.
