burn notice is as hot as ever

"Burn Notice"” is getting ready to show their mid-season finale tonight at 9PM est on USA but while that is rapidly approaching it's fun to look back and ask some of the cast about their experiences for this season and what led to taking the roles in the first place.

Sharon Gless, an accomplished actress is a real source of comic relief on the show and during the interview she started talking about dealing with “bad guys” on the show and she took it to another level.

“Well, the only bad guys I have to find my way around are Jeffrey and Bruce. I mean, my job on the show is the mother from hell. I don’t get involved in the heavy stuff like they do,” she laughed and so did her co-star Bruce Campbell, who shot back with.

“Sharon, your character is scarier than some of the bad guys.”

Ahh it’s fun when the cast gets along so famously and Jeffrey Donovan, who players her son Michael really seems to have a closeness with her as well.

When Gless got the script for the show she reviewed it in a very unusual location.

“I was actually sitting in the fat farm and this script arrived and I was sitting all alone in my room and it made me laugh out loud and I was all by myself. And I thought, this is funny. This is fun, I like this. It had substance to it, too,” she said honestly. “

Once again Campbell made the interview a bit more interesting by shooting back with, “It probably didn’t hurt that you live in Miami, too.”

“I forgot about that, but I didn’t tell them that during the interview,” said Gless. “I wanted to live in a hotel like you guys. And then when it sold, I had to ‘fess up.”
Bruce plays Sam Axe, an ex-military type yet his character doesn’t seem to fit the mold the viewer may have had in mind for that type of person.

“I think my character is actually more accurate. I think I run into some of these guys. My first wife remarried a police officer, and I’ll tell you these guys like having a good time when they’re not working,” he said. “They don’t sit around mopey dope, they sit around and crack gallows humor, lots of gallows humor, dark humor. Frankly, I think they’re happy that they’re alive most of these guys after going through all of this and they have a good joie de vivre that the average executive might not have. So I should think Sam is very indicative of the real guys, you know guys who are my age who have mustered out in their 50’s. Believe me, most of them are drinking beer and sitting around a pool cracking jokes about the old days.”
Sharon talked about her experience from her days on her hit show Cagney and Lacey.

“In my experience in having done Cagney & Lacey many years ago, we had technical advisors on the set and we had detectives and police. Not exactly in the role that Bruce is playing, but these guys who see so much really do have a very macabre sense of humor. And I do think that’s how they stay sane.”

On screen chemistry is an important element and Sharon talked about a time when it didn’t work out.

“Do you know I was put on Marcus Welby as a regular for a year because I was to be a love interest of James Brolin, and they said that there was absolutely no chemistry between James Brolin and me and I got fired.”

Tyne Daly, also of Cagney and Lacey fame, will be making an appearance on this week’s episode and Sharon was very happy about that.

“It was wonderful. And I’m not just saying that. Tyne Daly is one of the finest actresses I’ve ever met or ever had the pleasure of working with. It was just like old times. I mean they were different characters, but we know each other now and her mother had a great expression. Okay, her mom said, “Sweat makes a great cement.” And she and I sweat together for six years and we just know each other’s timing, we know, and we love, we love to rehearse, we love to work, and it was a real treat for me and I think for all of us to have her on the show.”

USA might be a cable channel but Burn Notice is beating up on the network shows as well.

“We’re beating everything on cable and also Sharon, we’re beating the network broadcasts in certain demographics. We’re actually the number one."

Burn Notice has been renewed for a 4th season.
