When I had a passage approved in this book by Harvey Frommer I was thrilled. I’ve reviewed all of his previous releases for the past 5-7 years and I think he’s the best baseball historian on the planet. The Boston Red Sox play in a baseball museum and their history is among the richest in the game and “Remembering Fenway Park” by Stewart, Tabori @ Chang, is a must buy for Red Sox fans but all baseball fans can appreciate the photography and the short stories written in this book by a lot baseball buffs (including me) and that makes this extremely interesting.
This coffee table book is over a couple of hundred pages long and the index is exquisite (all baseball geeks love a great index!). The foreword is written by Johnny Pesky and the photos are to die for! Especially the old signed baseballs and team pictures. I especially like the All-Star shot with Connie Mack!
Reading this book is like opening a baseball time capsule! I’ve been reading it for a while now and I continue to learn so much about the Sox and great stars of the “Grand Ole’ Game’.
Fenway Park is the star of this book as it should be. I had a chance to take a behind the scenes tour last year and to get inside the Green Monster was a dream come true for me! (see the back cover shot with Manny!)
I am a fan of Babe Ruth and there are so many never-before-seen (at least by me) shots of the “Bambino”.
Ex-writers, Jon Miller, Dom DiMaggio all have passages in this tome and so do I (page 185). Page 184 has a passage by Jimmy Piersall, who is a real character. I especially like Mike Lowell’s account of his first time in Fenway during a Yankees series.
The book has an intoxicating smell, is it the ink or is it from the baseball high that you get from reading it?
The “By The Numbers” section towards the back is informative as is the entire book. It’s an absolute gem and it’s the perfect addition to your personal baseball library!
