Flyers-Sabres - - Positives and Negatives

PostDateIcon Fri, 2011-04-15 08:58 | PostAuthorIcon Russ_Cohen

Here is a list of positives and negatives that occurred in the Flyers 1-0 loss to the Sabres last night. Let’s lead off with the Flyers.

Negatives

1) Mike Richards, Jeff Carter and Danny Briere couldn’t get the puck past Ryan Miller. Why? Because the Buffalo goaltender saw every shot.

2) The Flyers were 0-5 on the power play generating 11 shots on net.
3) Kris Versteeg played a bit reckless.

Positives

1) Sergei Bobrovsky let up one rebound, the rookie played a great game, he was sound under pressure and he stopped 24 shots.
2) The Flyers defense was sound. Kimmo Timonen thought they played well. He played over 22 minutes and took a team high six shots.
3) The Flyers killed of Buffalo’s only power play.

Buffalo

Positives

1) Ryan Miller did everything he needed to do to win that game. He was squared to every shooter and only had one or two moments when the Flyers jarred the puck loose in the crease.
2) Patrick Kaleta, knocked in a rebound, he was on the doorstep and he buried it. He only had two shots in the game and he made one of them count.
3) The Sabres defense was a sound unit. They had three players back to protect the 1-0 lead and they built a wall at the blueline when the Flyers had six attackers on the ice neutralizing them in their tracks.

Looking ahead:

Flyers – Andreas Nodl played a good game but either he or Dan Carcillo might sit in favor of Nik Zherdev to help provide an offensive spark.
Sabres – Try and go up 2-0 on the road.

Quote of the night:

Lindy Ruff on playing the oft-injured, Patrick Kaleta
“He has had a tough year when it comes to all of the different injuries he has dealt with. I thought he was okay in the Columbus game. I didn’t really make my decision until today whether I was going to play him. It was a tough decision, but I thought he played very well. I thought he ran over a few people, but kept his game in control. I thought he played real smart.”
