Charlie Moore is the host of “No Offense” and his show has some amazing guests for Season 2. Guests include World Famous Boxer Micky Ward, Coach Peter Laviolette and Mitt Romney. Interesting. To me I had to find out about Flyers coach Peter Laviolette since I cover him and the Philadelphia Flyers pretty closely.
Moore is from Boston and he’s a great self promoter for sure.
“I look at myself as an entertainer. We add a celebrity now and then to profile career their life etc.,” he said without taking a breath. “I’m the best item on the menu when you walk into the restaurant, not the other menu items. I’m different. I don’t like talking about myself in an egotistical way. I’m from Boston, I don’t do drugs, don’t have a gambling problem. I have an occasional cigar, a steak and I’m good.”
So he is a Boston Bruins fan and last season he had Laviolette’s phone number and the two were texting after games where the Bruins eventually beat the Flyers.
“What the Bruins won is the hardest trophy in sports. The way they did it was incredible. Absolutely and he brought up the Bruins four-straight losses the year before in the Eastern Conference semifinals. That’s what guys and friends to. I was texting him after the Boston-Philly games last year, chiding him a little bit,” he said grinning. “That’s respect. What I do is tongue and cheek. I don’t do shock value television.”
Moore all but guaranteed that there will be some “WOW” moments on his shows this season.
“We have a lot of those though. We went to a Laviolette family reunion, when you have the guy’s mother, father, sister and brother-in-law you can’t air half the stuff,” he chuckled. “All the Philadelphia fans will never see him like this and you’ve never seen him like this. It’s a different guy not the coach of the team.
“He’s just an excellent, excellent, guy. No producer can fake that. He’s a hardass you have to be that in the business. I do fish for fun, but my business is getting ratings. This is a real show, with real ratings that you have to survive to stay on the air. So I always try to find the best way to entertain people.”
He has an interesting take on some of the other fishing shows out there like Jimmy Houston.
“I’m sure he (Laviolette) doesn’t go on a fishing show to talk about his skills, neither does Mitt Romney. He wanted to promote what he does and try something that he’s not very good at. He wanted to have a good time. It’s a different environment. When they are on they are relaxed, calm, maybe having a glass of wine and smoking a cigar. You don’t have to be a novice to do a fishing show. Those guys are idiots. I don’t ask for directions in the desert, I’ll find my own way there. I don’t try and teach people,” he said in his best WWE rant, and then he talked about that and a bit more. “It’s a common thing with me (ranting). Look there’s a time and place for everything. I don’t disrespect anybody. He has a good show.”
“Irish” Micky Ward had a movie made about his life called “The Fighter” and he appears on the show. Here is Moore’s take on that.
“Phenomenal! His story is a true Rocky Balboa story. People like success stories but they don’t want you to be too successful. The fight with Arturo Gatti was phenomenal. Two guys in the ring beating the sh## out of each other! He’s a genuine guy. He was told he wasn’t good enough. Kids are told they are too fat. No wonder kids have issues. I have issues. Do I sound normal to you?”
Well since I have never hung with Charlie I’ll let the viewer decide but here’s a bit more information about him.
“It’s definitely a lifestyle show. Television to me is entertainment. I was on ESPN for 8 years, television for 17 years. That spawned this show on NBC Sports,” Moore stated, and then he added “Fishing is the #1 leisure sport.”
He married his high school sweetheart and he’s living the dream. Check out more of him on http://www.charliemoore.com/. Collectors can get a “FREE” autographed trading card.
